FAQ TK88 Thermal Heat Coating
It has excellent adhesion on clean surfaces i.e.
- carbon steel,
- aluminum,
- galvanized metal,
- wood,
- fiberglass,
- concrete as well as on
- most industrial primers and automotive paints.
Always test before applying.
Ideal for insulating roofs and walls of refrigerated
trucks, building roofs, roll-up doors, RV’s, etc
The Thermal coating adheres very well to fiberglass substrates without primer application. However, a couple of factors are at play. If the Casita is older it might have some deterioration from UV exposure. This white chalky residue needs to be removed before the Thermal coating is applied.
- Scrub the area with a citrus based cleaner ( ie ZEP, Citrus Blast, Simple Green, etc) and a Clean scuffing pad.
- Rinse well and let dry.
- Sand with 150 grit sand paper.
- Remove sanding dust.
The coating is thick and can be rolled but difficult to get a nice even finish when rolled. It is a lot easier to spray. Because the coating is heavy, overspray is no issue like with other automotive paint.
In this case, more is better.
Our testing was done with samples that were sprayed with 40 mils of coating. However, heat blocking results will improve if the coating is sprayed thicker . Do not apply more than 80 mils.
