How to Apply TK99 Deck Coating

Cleaning:

  • Remove/replace rotted wood and splinters, fill in major cracks/holes with paintable wood putty.
  • Clean deck with waterborne degreaser (i.e. citrus degreaser).
  • New deck will only require a light cleaning.
  • Old decks require a more thorough cleaning with special attention to oily spots.
  • Rinse thoroughly with hose/pressure washer and allow for the wood to completely dry.
  • Repeated cleaning of oily spots might be necessary to ensure proper adhesion.
  • A fan will increase air flow and reduce drying time.

Applying:

  • Apply at minimum of 60°F at a thickness of 0.7-1.0mm (30-40 mils) with the recommended 3/8” foam nap for semi-smooth to smooth surface roller.
  • Roll on coating assuring 100% coverage. Let coating dry to touch (estimated 1-2 hours dependent on humidity, temperature and air movement).
  • When applying the second coat, be sure to apply on a touch dry coating and use generously to maximize protection and strength of the coating.
  • Do not apply if the temperature expected to be below 60°F.
  • Apply minimum 2 coats.
  • Tekton 99 can be cleaned with water (damp cloth) while wet, remove mechanically when dried.

Drying:

  • Do not expose coating to temperatures below 60°F during the application and the curing process.
  • At 77°F and RH 55%, the trailer floor coating will be dry to touch after 1-2 hours,
  • After 6 hours only light foot traffic is recommended.
  • 72 hours after application the coating will be fully cured.
  • Allow the coating to fully cure before exposing to water, cold weather and heavy traffic.

Storage and Safety Precautions:

  • Do not freeze and do not store in direct sun.
  • Use only outdoors or in a well ventilated area.
  • Use proper protective eye wear/clothing.
  • See SDS for the latest safety precautions.
  • Unopened container: 2 year shelf life stored between 40-75°F.
  • Opened container: up to 6 month shelf life if stored between 40-75°F.
