FAQ TK 44 Spray On Undercoating
Solvents should only be used to clean up TK44, such as overspray. We recommend Mineral Spirits or White Spirit.
Undercoating in aerosol cans are on the average filled with 80% propellant gases and only 20% undercoating. Tekton 44 is 100% undercoating and is using air (not harmful gases) for its application method. It is safe to say that 1 liter of TK 44 covers the equivalent area of 4/5 spray cans. The savings are considerable.
The RA/1 gun was designed with TK44 in mind.
The gun should be able to spray the coating without thinning. If you having problems spraying,
the gun nozzle is screwed in too far.
Yes , you can apply TK44 on some lightly rusted spots. The coating will seal the rust from any moisture and will stop it from spreading.
The coating stays tacky but will harden enough ( after 2 months) that it will not permanently pick up sand. Even if a bit of sand would adhere, the next rain shower will wash it off easily.
If you want your vehicle to be 100% sand free, I can recommend TC/UC , a polymer based undercoating that will harden completely like a plastic. Because this is a water based product, we recommend a light coat of primer over the rusted areas.
Tekton® 44 is a durable, thixotropic, fast drying anti corrosion coating based on polymerized-bitumen. The product has excellent sound deadening qualities and offers durable protection to the chassis of cars, trucks, and coaches. Completely dries with a permanent tacky coating to assure flexibility in low temperatures. It remains a tough adhesive film that offers excellent protection against various climates and gravel.
Yes, lightly rusted areas can be sprayed and protected with TK 44. However, rust scale and loose rust particles should be scraped /removed to insure proper adhesion.
Yes, TK 44 will protect when sprayed over rust converter.
Really well.
TK 44 remains slightly tacky and it contains polymer (plastic). Unlike a hard paint , this more flexible coating will bounce back the rock chips without being damaged.
Properly applied TK 44 will prevent rust for many years without a primer . This being said, the more layers, the better. An extra layer of primer will add to your protection.
TK44 will not be affected by temps up to 170 F.
No, lightly rusted areas can be sprayed and protected with TK 44 without having to be sanded to bare metal. However, rust scale and loose rust particles should be scraped /removed to insure proper adhesion.
TK44 should not be sprayed inside engine compartments. It's heat limit is 170 F.
TK44 is engineered to offer many years of rust protection. How long will first of all depend on the application of the product. Good prep work and the proper thickness are key. Further more it's longevity will vary by the way it is used. Many over the road trailers are treated with TK44, they might cover over 100,000 miles a year versus an average personal car that is only used 15,000 mile.
No, no primer is needed. As long as the surface is properly cleaned.

No, TK 44 contains solvents that would affect the insulation.
Better to use our Total Coat Undercoating TC/UC . It is waterbased and will not have any adverse effects.
No, although the adhesion to plastic might be fine, TK44 contains solvents that might react with the plastic.
