How to Apply TK68 Safety Striping Paint
Cleaning
- Apply on a clean, bare, primed or painted surface, free of oil, grease, dirt,
release agents or any other contaminants. - We highly recommend cleaning with a waterborne, citrus degreaser.
- Failure to properly clean and degrease the surface to be coated will result
in the loss of adhesion and the dried coating will easily peel away in badly prepped areas. - On Concrete:
Do not apply on freshly poured concrete; let the concrete dry out for min 3 months. - Old Concrete:
Power wash, degrease. Rinse and let dry. - On Asphalt:
Power wash, degrease, rinse and let dry. Asphalt surfaces are usually quite rough and porous.
Apply a thicker coat or 2 coats for proper coverage. - On Stone:
Power wash, degrease, rinse and let dry. - On Treated Wood:
Make sure the wood is dry. - On Freshly pressure treated wood:
Needs to dry out for at least 3 months before painting. - On Plastic:
Do not apply directly to plastic. Use Sherwin Williams UPO7229 Adhesion promotor before applying TK68. - On Styrofoam:
TK68 is solvent free and will not harm the Styrofoam/insulation foam. - On Metal:
For use in Automotive, industrial or agricultural applications, apply on clean primed metals.
Application
- TK68 can be applied with a brush, a roller (3/8 nap foam) or a spray gun.
- We recommend Chemicar RA1/USAL for best results.
- Apply at ambient temps between 60°F and 90°F .
- Do not apply in direct sunlight or when temps are supposed to drop below 60°F before the coating has dried.
- Apply a thick (20 mils - 0.5 mm) coat for long lasting results.
- Do not dilute with water or solvents.
- Clean equipment/spills with water when wet ; remove mechanically when the coating has dried.
Drying Times
- Tekton 68 should not be exposed to temperatures below 60°F during the application and curing process.
- At 77°F and RH 55%, the Safety Striping Paint will be dry to touch after 1-2 hours.
- After 6 hours, only light usage is recommended.
- 72 hours after application, the paint will be fully cured.
- Allow the paint to fully cure before exposing to water, cold weather and heavy usage.
- Make sure newly painted items are properly cured before using.
